St. Catharines holds on for 4-3 win against Niagara Falls

The Niagara Falls Canucks tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the St. Catharines Falcons would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

A goal by Manny Manns put St. Catharines up 4-1 in the third period, but Niagara Falls pulled to within one on Matthew Marsden's tally 16:07 into the third period.

The Falcons got the win behind a great game by Tyler Hildebrandt, who had one goal and two assists. Hildebrandt scored 6:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Catharines.

St. Catharines forced the Canucks goalie Joseph Murdaca to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Others who scored for St. Catharines included James Guest and Phillip Chadder, who each put in one. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Tyler Jackson, who had two and Jonathan Giordano and Brady Lee, who contributed one each.

Niagara Falls stifled the Falcons' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

The Canucks were led by Luke Laurin, who finished with two goals. Laurin scored the first of his two goals at 8:09 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Peter Falivena picked up the assist. Laurin's next tally made the score 4-2 St. Catharines with 9:40 left in the third period. Thomas Flack provided the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Niagara Falls were Jeffrey Venzon and Dillon Hill, who each chipped in one.

Joel Horodziejczyk made 27 saves for St. Catharines on 30 shots. The Falcons incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Niagara Falls' Murdaca stopped 32 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Canucks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For Niagara Falls, Brandon Sabha was ejected from the game.
