Caledonia downs Pelham in overtime, 6-5 (OT)Pelham Meridian CC Fri, Sep 25, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Corey Pawley gave the Caledonia Corvairs a 6-5 (OT) victory over the Pelham Panthers when he scored 54 seconds into the extra period. Caledonia overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Corvairs trailed 3-1 after a goal by Pelham's Jesse Burger at 1:17 in the second period. Caledonia tied things up at 5-5 on a goal by Brandon MacKinnon at 4:38 in the third period. Pawley had two goals and three assists to lead the Corvairs. Pawley scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:14 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Pelham. A hooking penalty on Burger had put Caledonia on the power play. Blake Luscombe picked up the assist. Pawley's next tally on the power play made the score 6-5 Caledonia with 19:06 left in overtime. Luscombe assisted on the tally. The Corvairs kept the Panthers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Corey Foster made 62 saves on 68 shots. Caledonia's normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. The Corvairs average 2.0 goals allowed per game. Caledonia was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to two goals off of nine man advantages. Caledonia also had goals scored by Matthew Hore, who had two and Mackenzie MacSorley and Connor Patton, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Caledonia were Austin Brown, Mitch Graham, Scott Dorion, Jordan Brown, and Jake Brown, who each chipped in one. Pelham bested its season scoring average. The Panthers have scored at the pace of 2.1 goals per game during the current campaign. Pelham was helped by Thomas Young, who racked up two goals. Young scored the first of his two goals at 19:43 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Pelham. Mathiau Young picked up the assist. Young's next tally made the score 4-3 Pelham with 10:22 left in the second period. The Panthers earned a power play opportunity when Patton was put in the box for slashing. MacKinnon assisted on the tally. Pelham also got points from MacKinnon, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Adam Petric also scored for Pelham. In addition, Pelham received assists from Connor Schmalz, who had two and London Murray, Zach Anderson, and Riley Hollowell, who contributed one each. The Corvairs' Mark Sinclair stopped 12 shots out of the 15 that he faced. Caledonia incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Corvairs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dorion was ejected from the game. Pelham incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
