Leamington rolls over LaSalle, 6-2Leamington Kinsmen Recreation Thu, Sep 24, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Leamington Flyers had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-2 win over the LaSalle Vipers. Thomas Virban quarterbacked Leamington's offense to perfection and bagged four assists in the Flyers' win over LaSalle. Leamington pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 49 penalty minutes. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:57 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Flyers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six LaSalle power plays. Leamington's offense rang up 35 shots on the Vipers' net. Leamington additionally got points from Jacob McGhee, who also had one goal and one assist, Scott Florence, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Derek Elliott, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Leamington included Cale Phibbs, Luke Sanko, and Mark Gangnon, who each put in one. In addition, Leamington received assists from Cale Allen, who had three and Nicolas Mainella and Mitchell Amante, who contributed one each. LaSalle forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and one major for 45 minutes in penalty time. The Vipers had been averaging 28.0 minutes in penalties per game. LaSalle did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Vipers average 4.2 goals per game. LaSalle kept the Flyers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Michael Barrett made 29 saves on 31 shots. The Vipers were led by Eric Kirby, who had one goal. Kirby scored 1:34 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Leamington. Nathan Savage provided the assist. LaSalle also got a goal from Liam McDougall as well. More assists for LaSalle came via Tyler Russell and Manny Silverio, who each chipped in one. Leamington registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For the Flyers, Travis Campbell was ejected from the game. Eli Billing rejected 29 shots on goal for LaSalle. For the Vipers, Matthew Doucette and Blake Jones were ejected from the contest.
