Stratford rides Redman to victory over Kitchener, 2-1

Kitchener Memorial Auditorium    Sun, Sep 20, 2015

Nick Redman stood on his head and made 26 saves to lead the Stratford Cullitons to a 2-1 victory over the Kitchener Dutchmen.

Stratford pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 54 penalty minutes.

The Cullitons were paced by Hayden Broomhead, who tallied one goal. Broomhead scored on the power play 5:19 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Stratford. A cross checking penalty on Kyle Somani had put Stratford on the power play. Drew Gross provided the assist.

The Cullitons' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Kitchener power plays.

Stratford also got a goal from Zach Van Louwe as well. In addition, Stratford received assists from Jack Scanlan and Justin Graham, who contributed one each.

Kitchener was held below its usual level of production. The Dutchmen average 4.0 goals per game. Kitchener could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 46 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Dutchmen were led by Adam Kawalec, who scored the team's only goal. Kawalec scored 12:38 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Logan Schmidt picked up the assist.

Stratford registered one goal on 10 power play opportunities. The Cullitons ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Gross was ejected from the game. Kitchener's Cossimo Lazzarino stopped 20 shots out of the 22 that he faced.
