Leamington rolls over Strathroy, 5-1

The Leamington Flyers were firing on all cylinders against the Strathroy Rockets, and when the final buzzer sounded Flyers emerged with a 5-1 win.

Mark Gangnon had two goals and one assist to lead Leamington. Gangnon scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 9:25 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Leamington. A high sticking penalty on Kieran Milne had put the Flyers on the power play. J.P. Grineau assisted on the tally. Gangnon's next tally on the power play made the score 3-0 Leamington with 17:38 left in the second period. Mitchell Amante picked up the assist.

Leamington's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and two majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. The Flyers surpassed its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game. Strathroy was unable to stop Leamington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Flyers eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

Leamington additionally got points from Amante, who also had one goal and one assist. Leamington also had goals scored by Jacob McGhee and Joe Urbanic, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Leamington were Scott Florence, who had two and Nicolas Mainella, Mitchell Crevatin, Cale Allen, and Travis Campbell, who contributed one each.

The Rockets were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and two majors for 46 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game Strathroy had been spending in the box.

Michael Barrett made 18 saves for Leamington on 19 shots. The Flyers registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Team's Colin Moore and Zach Guilbeault were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Rockets' Dane Gubbels stopped 35 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Strathroy registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For the Rockets, Jeff Clarke and Turner Balasin were ejected from the contest.
