Lakefield takes care of Little Britain early, wins 12-2

A five-goal first period deficit cost the Little Britain Merchants, which could not recover and fell to the Lakefield Chiefs, 12-2.

Patrick Young was all over the ice for Lakefield, as he tallied two goals and six assists in the win. Young scored the first of his two goals at 4:20 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Lakefield. Travis Brault provided the assist. Young's next tally made the score 8-2 Lakefield with 8:45 left in the second period. The Chiefs earned a power play opportunity when Jesse Craig was put in the box for roughing. Brault picked up the assist.

Little Britain fell victim to a deadly Lakefield power play, which ripped the Merchants for four goals.

The Chiefs stifled Little Britain's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Lakefield bested its season scoring average. This season, the Chiefs average 4.4 goals per contest. Lakefield could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 40 minutes in penalties during the game.

Lakefield also got points from Riley Campbell, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Jesse Gregory, who also grabbed five goals and one assist, Joe Sargeant, who also had one goal and one assist, and Nick Hildebrand, who also registered one goal and two assists. Lakefield also had goals scored by Jayd Killingbeck and Keenan Runnalls, who scored one goal each. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Josh Duggan and Jordan MacLean, who contributed one each.

The Merchants were held below their usual level of production. Little Britain puts an average of 4.2 pucks into the net per game. The Merchants were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 25 penalty minutes.

Little Britain was led by Mitchell Brown, who tallied one goal. Brown scored 3:07 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Brett Doble also scored for Little Britain. Other players who recorded assists for Little Britain were Brady Martin and Jesse Beers, who each chipped in one.

The Chiefs' Zach Wainman stopped 19 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Lakefield ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and MacLean was ejected from the game. Adam Harris made 11 saves before being replaced by Garrett Haden, who took the loss and made five saves. The Merchants registered zero goals on 10 power play opportunities. For Little Britain, Aidan Renouf and Greg McLean were ejected from the contest.
