Montreal Ice Storm survives Winnipeg Junior Jets comeback, wins 4-3

Montreal Ice Storm survived a determined comeback attempt by Winnipeg Junior Jets on the way to a 4-3 win.

A goal by Frederick Maltais put Montreal Ice Storm up 4-1 in the second period, but Winnipeg Junior Jets pulled to within one on Owen Pickering's tally 10:40 into the third period.

Winnipeg Junior Jets' power play was ineffective against Montreal Ice Storm's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Montreal Ice Storm stifled Winnipeg Junior Jets' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Montreal Ice Storm was helped by Jake Rozzi, who finished with two goals. Rozzi scored the first of his two goals short handed at 3:03 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Montreal Ice Storm. Montreal Ice Storm was on a disadvantage when James Swan went off the ice for tripping. Rozzi's next tally short handed made the score 3-0 Montreal Ice Storm with 18:48 left in the second period. Dylan Andrews assisted on the tally. Montreal Ice Storm also got points from Maltais, who also registered one goal and one assist. Montreal Ice Storm also got a goal from Kassim Gaudet as well. In addition, Montreal Ice Storm received assists from Benjamin Brassard, Cedricson Okitundu, David Goyette, and Jace Letourneau, who contributed one each.

Winnipeg Junior Jets managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Winnipeg Junior Jets finished below its season average of 4.0 penalty minutes per game.

Winnipeg Junior Jets was helped by Jackson Sirrell, who racked up one goal. Sirrell scored 2:03 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Montreal Ice Storm. Conor Geekie provided the assist. Cayden Glover also scored for Winnipeg Junior Jets. More assists for Winnipeg Junior Jets came via Trey Sellen, Nolan Roberts, and Austin Peters, who each chipped in one.

Montreal Ice Storm's Lukas Renaud stopped 19 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Montreal Ice Storm incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Winnipeg Junior Jets took out Lachlan MacLean after he had made eight saves and installed Ethan Buenaventura in goal, where he finished with 15 saves and the loss.
