Huge game by Sturtz boosts Carleton Place over Pembroke, 5-2

Behind a great game by Andy Sturtz, who had two goals and one assist, the Carleton Place Canadians defeated the Pembroke Lumber Kings, 5-2.

Sturtz scored at 16:13 into the second period to make the score 2-2 and again while 17:23 into the third to make the score 4-2 Carleton Place.

The win moved Carleton Place to down 2-1 in the best of seven series.

The Canadians stifled Pembroke's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Lumber Kings were unable to stop Carleton Place from sending pucks towards the net, and the Canadians eventually piled up 46 shots on goal.

Carleton Place additionally got points from Larry Smith, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Carleton Place included Vinny Post and Stephen Baylis, who scored one goal each. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Evan Peterson, who had one and Luke Edwards, who had two.

Pembroke's offense rang up 32 shots on Carleton Place's net.

The Lumber Kings were helped by Kyle Shaw, who racked up one goal. Shaw scored short handed 10:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pembroke. A tripping call on Steven Johnston put Pembroke on the penalty kill. Mark Petaccio also scored for Pembroke. More assists for Pembroke came via Stephan Beauvais, who had one.

The Canadians' Guillaume Therien stopped 30 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Carleton Place incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Darren Smith rejected 41 shots on goal for the Lumber Kings. Pembroke incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
