Cornwall survives Ottawa comeback, wins 4-2

The Cornwall Colts survived a determined comeback attempt by the Ottawa Senators on the way to a 4-2 win.

Cornwall made the score 4-1 on a goal by Tanner Spink at 6:19 in the third period, and Ottawa got as close as 4-2 when Zac Tierney scored 10:23 into the third period.

With the win, the Colts evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

Cornwall's penalty kill excelled, as the Colts gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

Cornwall was helped by Cal Hofford, who registered one goal. Hofford scored on the power play 6:32 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Cornwall. The Colts earned a power play opportunity when Robert Michel was put in the box for high sticking. Kevin Hope assisted on the tally. Cornwall additionally got points from Hope, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Cornwall also got a goal from Lawson MacDonald as well. In addition, Cornwall received assists from Marly Quince, who had two and Ross Craig, Jay DAmour, Zach Renfrew, and Lawson MacDougall, who contributed one each.

Cornwall was unable to stop the Senators from sending pucks towards the net, and Ottawa eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

More assists for Ottawa came via Ryan Collins, Zackary Rheaume, Deric Boudreau, and Hunter Racine, who each chipped in one.

James Edwardson recorded 40 saves for the Colts. Cornwall totaled 29 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. The Colts ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Renfrew was ejected from the game. The Senators' Alexandre Savard-Belanger stopped 11 shots out of the 15 that he faced. Ottawa incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
