Essex rolls over Belle River, 5-1

The Essex 73s had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Belle River Canadiens.

After the loss made the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series, Belle River faces elimination next time out.

Essex's Darien Ekblad was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 31 saves and let only one puck past him. Ekblad managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.83 prior to the game.

The 73s were led by Matthew Hebert, who finished with one goal. Hebert scored 7:43 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Essex. Philip Janikowski picked up the assist.

Essex stifled the Canadiens' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 73s' offense rang up 41 shots on Belle River's net.

Essex additionally got points from Tyler Scott, who also registered one goal and one assist and Daniel Slipchuk, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Essex included Colin DeLaet and Daniel McIntyre, who each put in one. In addition, Essex received assists from Scott Bromley, who had two and Corey Beaulieu, Tyler Raymont, Alex Garon, Jordan Ryan, and Dylan Solecki, who contributed one each.

The Canadiens' offense rang up 32 shots on Essex's net.

The 73s incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Mitch Topliffe made 36 saves for Belle River on 41 shots. The Canadiens incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
