Essex falls to Belle River in overtime, 2-1 (OT)

The Belle River Canadiens' Matthew Hebert scored 5:07 into overtime to beat the Essex 73s, 2-1 (OT).

With the win, Belle River evened the series at 2-2 in the best of seven showdown.

The Canadiens came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Belle River trailed 1-0 after a goal by Essex's Colin DeLaet at 6:23 in the first period. The Canadiens knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Sebastian Kanally at 7:51 in the fourth period.

The 73s were stymied by Belle River's netminder Mitch Topliffe, who stopped 40 shots during the victory. Topliffe managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.56 prior to the game.

The Canadiens stifled Essex's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Belle River kept the 73s' goalie busy throughout the game, and Darien Ekblad made 35 saves on 37 shots.

Belle River also got points from Branden Larocque, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Belle River came via Brian Johnson, who had one and Mike Ditty, who had two.

Essex put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Canadiens to score on any of their four power plays. The 73s forced Belle River goalie Topliffe to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

In addition, Essex received assists from Tyler Raymont and Daniel Slipchuk, who contributed one each.

The Canadiens ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For Belle River, Hunter Corp was ejected from the game. Essex incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
