Wheatley beats Alvinston 9-1 as Woelk gets hat trick

A hat trick by Jon Woelk was the highlight in Sharks' 9-1 win against the Alvinston Flyers.

Woelk got on the scoresheet 2:11 into the first period. He then added goals at 9:04 into the first and at 15:15 into the second.

With the win, the Wheatley Sharks evened the series at 2-2 in the best of seven showdown.

Wheatley scored early and often, and held a 5-0 advantage after the first 20 minutes of play.

The Sharks' penalty kill excelled, as Wheatley gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

The Sharks stifled Alvinston's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Wheatley additionally got points from Brett Babkirk, who also finished with two goals and two assists to lead the team in points, Cale Phibbs, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Lucas Raffoul, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Wheatley also got a goal from Shawn Hope as well. In addition, Wheatley received assists from Mike Reid, who had two and Tyler Liboiron, Evan Makaric, Jimmy Ciacelli, Brett Bowman, Brendon Anger, Thomas Virban, and Scott Florence, who contributed one a piece.

The Flyers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances.

Wheatley's Conner MacKinnon stopped 18 shots out of the 19 that he faced. The Sharks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Alvinston took out Brad Jacklin after he had made 12 saves and installed Brett Avery in goal, where he finished with nine saves and the loss. The Flyers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
