Belle River wins tough contest against Amherstburg, 5-4

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Belle River Canadiens escaped with a 5-4 victory over the Amherstburg Admirals.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Brian Johnson at 17:01 of the third period.

The win by Belle River clinched the best of seven series at 4-3.

Branden Larocque had two goals to lead the Canadiens to victory. Larocque scored at 3:15 into the second period to make the score 2-2 and again while 12:34 into the second to make the score 4-2 Belle River.

Amherstburg was unable to stop Belle River from sending pucks towards the net, and the Canadiens eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

Belle River also had goals scored by Sebastian Kanally and Connor Goodchild, who scored one goal each. More assists for Belle River came via Tyler Turner, Zack Bedard, Andy Britton, and JJ Percy, who contributed one a piece and Brad Carroll and Brenden Crundwell, who each chipped in two.

The Admirals kept Belle River's goalie busy throughout the game, and Mitch Topliffe made 28 saves on 32 shots.

Amherstburg was led by Jordan Luciw, who had one goal and one assist. Luciw scored 12:48 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Belle River. Zach Brown provided the assist. Amherstburg also got points from Dan Matoski, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Amherstburg included Blake Rutckyj and Luke Gangnon, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Amherstburg were Mark Sobocan and Ryan Jones, who contributed one a piece.

The Canadiens ended with no penalties and went 1-for-1 on the power play. The Admirals' Arren Romeril stopped 33 shots out of the 38 that he faced. Amherstburg avoided the penalty box for the entire game and scored zero goals off of zero power plays.
