Blenheim outlasts Mooretown, 4-2Mooretown Rink 1 Sat, Feb 15, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Blenheim Blades and the Mooretown Flags were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Blenheim made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2. The Blades gained the winning advantage on a goal by Cam Aitken 3:34 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. The win by Blenheim clinched the best of seven series at 4-2. Kellen Kaniecki was all over the ice for the Blades, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Kaniecki scored the first of his two goals at 10:52 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Mooretown. Tyler Boughner picked up the assist. Kaniecki's next tally made the score 2-2 with 1:11 left in the second period. Aitken provided the assist. Blenheim forced Mooretown goalie Brandon Johnson to work between the pipes, taking 48 shots. Blenheim additionally got points from Aitken, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Derek Muzzatti also scored for Blenheim. Other players who recorded assists for Blenheim were Bryce Broad, Zack Horvath, Brayden Seliga, and Ty Scratch, who each chipped in one. The Flags excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Mooretown was helped by Brett Thompson, who grabbed one goal. Thompson scored 7:07 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Mooretown. Macgregor Haddon picked up the assist. Mooretown also got a goal from Matt Brandon as well. In addition, Mooretown received assists from Dan Lumley and Sam Jasmin, who contributed one a piece. Adam Leboeuf made 26 saves for the Blades on 28 shots. Blenheim incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Flags' Johnson stopped 44 shots out of the 48 that he faced. Mooretown incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
