Wheatley shrugs off penalties, upends Alvinston, 6-3

The Wheatley Sharks' penalty kill was superb, as Wheatley survived multiple penalties to beat the Alvinston Flyers, 6-3.

The win by the Sharks clinched the best of seven series at 4-2.

Wheatley's offense rang up 43 shots on Alvinston's net.

The Sharks were helped by Eric Rivard, who grabbed one goal. Rivard scored 2:28 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wheatley. Shawn Hope provided the assist. Wheatley additionally got points from Jimmy Ciacelli, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Wheatley included Brendon Anger, who had two and Zach Wilson and Cale Phibbs, who each put in one. More assists for Wheatley came via Brett Babkirk, who had two and Evan Makaric, Austin Thompson, and Brett Bowman, who contributed one a piece.

The Flyers kept Wheatley's goalie busy throughout the game, and Conner MacKinnon made 32 saves on 35 shots.

Alvinston was helped by Chad Rainsberry, who tallied one goal. Rainsberry scored 5:19 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Wheatley. Zach VanEyk picked up the assist. Alvinston also had goals scored by Jake ONeil and Tyler Kettler, who scored one goal each. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Sam MacGee, Dylan Lightfoot, Karsten Berg, Sam Vokes, and Chad Vaneyk, who each chipped in one.

The Sharks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Brett Avery recorded 37 saves for the Flyers. Alvinston incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
