The Alvinston Flyers took home the 5-2 victory over the Wheatley Sharks. The win gave Alvinston a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. The Flyers were helped by Chad Rainsberry, who grabbed one goal. Rainsberry scored short handed 7:58 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Alvinston. A cross checking call on Troy Whitely put Alvinston on the penalty kill. Alvinston also got points from Dan Warner, who also had one goal and one assist, Sam Vokes, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Kole Keating, who also registered one goal and one assist. Jake McPhail also scored for Alvinston. More assists for Alvinston came via Joe Archer, who had one. Wheatley was helped by Eric Rivard, who grabbed one goal. Rivard scored on the power play 11:34 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Alvinston. A hooking penalty on Vokes had put the Sharks on the power play. Brett Bowman picked up the assist. Wheatley also got a goal from Brendon Anger as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wheatley were Jimmy Ciacelli, Thomas Virban, and Jon Woelk, who contributed one a piece. The Flyers' Brett Avery stopped 28 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Alvinston incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Everitt Omstead rejected 18 shots on goal for Wheatley. The Sharks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
