Erin hangs on, beats Orillia 3-1

Adam Gibson scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Erin Shamrocks held off the challenges of the Orillia Terriers in a tough 3-1 win.Erin took over the lead for good with a goal by Gibson at 9:05 in the first period. The Shamrocks had gained a power play chance when Jakob McCarthy was whistled for interference. Josh Sguigna picked up the assist.
Erin's penalty kill excelled, as the Shamrocks gave up one goal despite allowing 10 power plays.
Erin was sparked by Chris Grenier, who racked up one goal. Grenier scored 13:45 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Erin. Gibson provided the assist.
The Shamrocks kept Orillia's goalie busy throughout the game, and Gordie Weiss made 48 saves on 51 shots. Erin had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 12 chances. The Shamrocks' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Erin finished with 58 penalty minutes.
Erin also got points from Gibson, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Mike Nicolucci also scored for Erin. In addition, Erin received assists from Tyler Topham, James Watsonbag, and Connor Mortimer, who contributed one a piece.
The Terriers racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 11 minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. Orillia surpassed its season average of 29.0 penalty minutes per game. The Terriers could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Orillia averages 3.4 goals per game.
The Terriers were led by Andreas Alexiou, who scored the team's only goal. Alexiou scored on the power play 14:59 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Erin. Orillia had gotten the advantage when the Shamrocks' Gibson was sent off for interference. Jason Binnie picked up the assist.
Tom Denstedt made 24 saves for Erin on 25 shots. For the Shamrocks, Nicolucci was ejected from the game. The Terriers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jason Stone was ejected from the game.
