Fergus outlasts Huntsville, 4-2

The Fergus Devils and the Huntsville Otters were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Fergus made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Mikael Ruffini secured the win for the Devils with a goal in the second period.

Ruffini was all over the ice for Fergus, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Ruffini scored the first of his two goals at 9:19 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Fergus. Patrick Snell picked up the assist. Ruffini's next tally made the score 4-2 Fergus with 7:49 left in the third period. Ben Roelofson provided the assist.

The Devils' penalty kill excelled, as Fergus gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Devils made Otters' goalies to work between the pipes, racking up 34 shots and forcing 30 saves. Connor Christianson made 20 stops and TJ Sherwood made 10.

Fergus also had goals scored by James Murray and Mackenzie Cleveland, who each put in one. More assists for Fergus came via Cole Bradley and Ryan Lavrench, who each chipped in one.

Huntsville kept Fergus' goalie busy throughout the game, and Alex Elliott made 36 saves on 38 shots. The Otters got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Huntsville was helped by Evan Wilding, who finished with one goal and one assist. Wilding scored on the power play 34 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-2 Fergus. A tripping penalty on Cleveland had put the Otters on the power play. Jay Dix picked up the assist. Huntsville additionally got points from Myles Bissonette, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Bryan Austin, who had one.

The Devils incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. For Fergus, Cody Gresswell was ejected from the game. Huntsville ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. The Otters ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Christianson was ejected from the game.
