Lafreniere's big game bests Fergus in 8-2 Stayner win

Behind a great game by Kyle Lafreniere, who had two goals and two assists, the Stayner Siskins defeated the Fergus Devils, 8-2.

Lafreniere found the back of the net 11:16 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Stayner and again while 2:35 into the third to make the score 7-2 Stayner.

Stayner's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Fergus power plays. The Siskins kept Fergus' goalie busy throughout the game, and Parker Merkley made 44 saves on 52 shots. Stayner surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Siskins have scored at the pace of 4.7 goals per game during the current campaign.

Stayner also got points from Cooper Martin, who also finished with two goals and one assist and Ricky Darrell, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Corey DeRose also scored for Stayner. More assists for Stayner came via Brendan Skidmore and Dakota Hynes, who contributed one a piece and Trevor Franklin and Quinton Bruce, who each chipped in two.

The Devils were led by Joshua Schafer, who tallied two goals. Schafer scored the first of his two goals at 7:18 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Cody Gresswell picked up the assist. Schafer's next tally made the score 2-2 with 33 seconds left in the first period. In addition, Fergus received assists from Griffin Heitshu, who had one.

Stayner's Taylor Trace stopped 24 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Siskins incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Fergus incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
