Penetang uses fast start to beat Caledon, 10-3

The Penetang Kings jumped out to a four-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Caledon Golden Hawks, 10-3.

Penetang got the win behind a great game by Matt Fischer, who had two goals and two assists. Fischer scored the first of his two goals at 10:14 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Mac Flewelling picked up the assist. Fischer's next tally made the score 4-1 Penetang with 1:27 left in the first period. The Kings had gained a power play chance when Derek Czech was whistled for tripping. Jack Scanlan assisted on the tally.

Caledon's 10 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Golden Hawks let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 11:09 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Penetang penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The Kings had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game. Penetang made Golden Hawks' netminders to work without much rest, totaling 49 shots and forcing 39 saves. Chris Vellucci made 35 stops and Eric Pitcher made four. The Kings excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. Penetang surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Kings average 5.4 goals per contest. Penetang got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Penetang additionally got points from Kyle Burns, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Jordan Schwartz, who also had one goal and one assist, Brayden Laurin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Ryan Young, who also registered two goals and one assist, and Michael Paul, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Penetang included Austin Fischer and Tyler Marchand, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Penetang were Matt Meher, who had two, Hayden Cole, who had three, and Mackenzie Bumstead and Myles York, who contributed one a piece.

Caledon racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The Golden Hawks surpassed its season average of 29.0 penalty minutes per game.

Caledon was helped by Daniel Cafagna, who had one goal. Cafagna scored 4:08 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Caledon. Caledon also had goals scored by Randy Chen and Steven Klomp, who each put in one. More assists for Caledon came via Mark Smythe and Nicholas McNutt, who each chipped in one.

Adam Redgate rejected 23 shots on goal for the Kings. For Penetang, Laurin was ejected from the game. For the Golden Hawks, Kyle Lee and Brett Bloor were ejected from the contest.
