GAME RECAP

DeRose's hat trick boosts Stayner over Penetang, 4-1

Stayner Memorial Arena    Thu, Jan 23, 2014

A hat trick by Corey DeRose was the highlight in Siskins' 4-1 win against the Penetang Kings.

DeRose notched his first tally 5:49 into the first period. He then added goals at 3:52 into the third and at 18:45 into the third.

The Stayner Siskins' Aaron Taylor was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 30 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Taylor will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.58.

Stayner forced Penetang goalie Adam Redgate to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. The Siskins' power play unit failed to produce, and was held to zero goals on nine chances.

Stayner also got a goal from Derick Robertson as well. In addition, Stayner received assists from Dakota Hynes, who had two and Brett Gauthier and Jason Seeley, who contributed one a piece.

The Kings stifled Stayner's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Penetang could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Kings average 5.3 goals per game. Penetang's offense rang up 31 shots on the Siskins' net. The Kings' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Penetang finished with 34 penalty minutes.

The Kings were led by Sammy Gagnon, who scored the team's only goal. Gagnon scored 5:57 into the second period to make the score 1-1.

Stayner incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Redgate rejected 30 shots on goal for Penetang. The Kings registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
