Alliston uses big second period to beat Penetang, 9-2New Tecumseth Rec Centre Sun, Jan 19, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Alliston Hornets used a four-goal second period to put away the Penetang Kings, 9-2. Alliston got the win thanks to a great game by Bobby Sloan, who had two goals and two assists. Sloan scored the first of his two goals at 7:13 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Alliston. Wyatt Young picked up the assist. Sloan's next tally made the score 6-1 Alliston with 4:31 left in the second period. David Leblanc assisted on the tally. The Hornets pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 16 penalty minutes. Alliston forced Kings' goalies to work all game long, finishing with 33 shots and forcing 24 saves. Adam Redgate made eight stops and Martin Lauzon made 16. The Hornets put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Penetang to score on any of its six power plays. Alliston bested its season scoring average. The Hornets have scored at the pace of 3.8 goals per game during the current campaign. Alliston's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Alliston additionally got points from Leblanc, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Alliston included Alex Daley, who had two and Jacob Tuck, Joe Cochrane, Tanner Dockerty, and Nic Archibald, who scored one goal each. More assists for Alliston came via Mark ODonnell, who had three and Mike Barosso, Jamie Bennett, Dakota Brooks, and Matt Hamilton, who each chipped in one. The Kings did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Penetang averages 5.4 goals per game. The Kings were helped by Matt Fischer, who racked up one goal. Fischer scored 11:16 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Alliston. Jack Scanlan picked up the assist. Penetang also got points from Austin Fischer, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Penetang were Ryan Shaw, who had one. Tyler Brindle made 28 saves for the Hornets on 30 shots. Alliston registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Penetang incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
