Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Erin Shamrocks defeated the Fergus Devils in a shootout 8-7 (1-0 SO). The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams.Erin came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Shamrocks trailed 7-5 after a goal by Fergus' Joshua Machesney at 10:03 in the third period. Erin knotted things up at 7-7 on a goal by Tyler Nieuwendyk at 16:13 in the third period. The Shamrocks' penalty kill excelled, as Erin gave up one goal despite allowing nine power plays. The Shamrocks forced the Devils goalie Alex Elliott to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Erin surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Shamrocks average 3.4 goals per game. Erin was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 28 penalty minutes. The Shamrocks were helped by Josh Tremblay, who had one goal and one assist. Tremblay scored 14:20 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Fergus. Patrick Reay picked up the assist. Erin additionally got points from Reay, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Josh Sguigna, who also registered one goal and one assist, Tyler Topham, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Cameron DeFazio, who also had one goal and one assist. Cody Haw provided the assist. Heitshu's next tally made the score 4-2 Fergus with 6:16 left in the second period. Ben Roelofson picked up the assist. Fergus also got points from Matt Clarke, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Fergus included Robert Ebach, James Murray, and Dustin Scheer, who each put in one. In addition, Fergus received assists from Cody Gresswell, Ryan Lavrench, and Jeryme Arnold, who each chipped in one. Alex Elliott made 28 saves for the Devils on 35 shots.
