Caledon vanquishes Fergus in shootout, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Caledon Golden Hawks defeated the Fergus Devils in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout.

Caledon saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Golden Hawks made the score 2-0 on a goal by Patrick Savella at 11:52 in the first period. Fergus evened things up at 2-2 on a goal by Griffin Heitshu at 10:39 in the third period.

The Devils were unable to stop Caledon from sending pucks towards the net, and the Golden Hawks eventually piled up 49 shots on goal. Caledon was held back by its power play unit, which tallied one goal on 11 chances.

The Golden Hawks were helped by Daniel Cafagna, who tallied one goal. Cafagna scored on the power play 3:25 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Caledon. Caledon earned a power play opportunity when Dominic Weathall was put in the box for cross checking. Steven Klomp provided the assist. In addition, Caledon received assists from Victor Piszczek, who had one.

Fergus kept the Golden Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Eric Pitcher made 29 saves on 31 shots. The Devils could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game.

Robert Ebach also scored for Fergus. Other players who recorded assists for Fergus were Dustin Scheer, who had two and Ben Roelofson and Alex Elliott, who each chipped in one.

Caledon incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Elliott rejected 46 shots on goal for Fergus. The Devils registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
