Schomberg uses shootout to best Erin, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Schomberg Cougars defeated the Erin Shamrocks in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.

Nicholas Chaykowsky had a great game for Schomberg, netting two goals. Chaykowsky found the back of the net 11:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Schomberg and again while 19:17 into the second to make the score 3-2 Schomberg.

The Cougars' penalty kill excelled, as Schomberg gave up one goal despite allowing 12 power plays.

The Cougars were often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and two majors for 52 minutes in penalty time. Schomberg surpassed its season average of 29.0 penalty minutes per game. The Cougars kept Erin's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tom Denstedt made 30 saves on 34 shots. The defensemen of Schomberg were also effective in the Shamrocks' zone, and came away with two goals.

Christian Muenz also scored for Schomberg. In addition, Schomberg received assists from Kiefer McIntosh, JP Crescenzi, Colton Wood, Blake Culley, Kevin Sarrazin, and Justin Formenton, who contributed one a piece.

Erin forced the Cougars goalie Taylor Ewart to work between the pipes, taking 52 shots.

The Shamrocks were helped by James Watsonbag, who had one goal and one assist. Watsonbag scored 19:40 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Tyler Topham picked up the assist. Erin additionally got points from Topham, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Erin also got a goal from Josh Sguigna as well. More assists for Erin came via Mike Nicolucci, Cosimo Morin, and Liam Adamson, who each chipped in one.

Ewart recorded 49 saves for Schomberg. The Cougars registered one goal on two power play opportunities. For Schomberg, Sarrazin and Derek Neilly were ejected from the contest. Erin ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. The Shamrocks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Josh Tremblay was ejected from the game.
