The Orillia Terriers relied on the scoring touch of Tyler Mason, who netted two goals, to beat the Midland Flyers, 5-1. Mason found the back of the net on the power play 19:00 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Orillia and again while 4:45 into the second to make the score 5-0 Orillia.Midland was stymied by Orillia netminder Gordie Weiss, who stopped 33 shots during the victory. The solid play of Weiss will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.49. The Terriers' penalty kill excelled, as Orillia gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays. The Terriers made the Flyers' netminders to work all game long, firing 54 shots and forcing 49 saves. Connor Akins made 21 stops and Marco Colangelo made 28. Orillia stifled Midland's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Orillia also got points from Ryan Tucci, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Orillia also got a goal from Jake Shaw as well. In addition, Orillia received assists from Zac Hele, Marty Lawlor, Jason Stone, and Josh Allan, who contributed one a piece. The Flyers forced the Terriers goalie Weiss to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. Midland's penalty kill was ineffective, and let in two goals to Orillia's power play unit. The Flyers were led by Bruce Brown, who scored the team's only goal. Brown scored 11:05 into the second period to make the score 5-1 Orillia. Kaden Shearer provided the assist. The Terriers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For Orillia, Jakob McCarthy was ejected from the game. Midland incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. |
