Fergus outlasts Caledon, 4-3

The Fergus Devils and the Caledon Golden Hawks were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Fergus made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-3.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Mackenzie Cleveland's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

The Devils were sparked by Cleveland, who had one goal. Cleveland scored on the power play 4:24 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Fergus. Fergus had gained a power play chance when Kyle Lee was whistled for roughing. Patrick Snell picked up the assist.

The Devils forced Caledon goalie Chris Vellucci to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Fergus got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. The Devils could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 44 minutes in penalties during the game.

Fergus also got points from Ben Roelofson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Fergus also had goals scored by Robert Ebach and Mikael Ruffini, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Fergus were Cole Bradley, Cody Gresswell, Mathew Clarke, and Joshua Machesney, who contributed one a piece.

The Golden Hawks kept Fergus' goalie busy throughout the game, and Alex Elliott made 45 saves on 48 shots. Team could not crack the Devils' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage. Caledon was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 50 penalty minutes.

The Golden Hawks were led by Brett Bloor, who finished with one goal and one assist. Bloor scored 11:56 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Justin Lollini assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Caledon included Rocky Furfari and Adam Breen, who each put in one. In addition, Caledon received assists from Derek Czech and Daniel Cafagna, who each chipped in one.

Fergus registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Chris Vellucci made 33 saves for Caledon on 37 shots.
