Midland uses shootout to best Stayner, 4-3 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Midland Flyers defeated the Stayner Siskins in a shootout 4-3 (3-2 SO).

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Stayner got shootout goals from Ricky Darrell and Derick Robertson. Midland also got shootout goals from Will Craig AP and James Hermelyn.

The Flyers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Midland's offense rang up 31 shots on the Siskins' net.

The Flyers were led by Darren Nesbitt, who registered two goals and one assist. Nesbitt scored the first of his two goals at 3:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Midland. Nesbitt's next tally made the score 3-1 Midland with 2:52 left in the second period. Brandon Stratton picked up the assist. Midland also got a goal from Steven Pickard as well. Other players who recorded assists for Midland were Cam Russell, who had one.

Stayner forced Midland goalie Connor Akins to work between the pipes, taking 51 shots.

The Siskins were led by Jesse Anderson, who grabbed two goals. Anderson scored the first of his two goals at 8:14 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Cooper Martin provided the assist. Anderson's next tally made the score 3-2 Midland with 2:26 left in the second period. Lucas Jeffries APM also scored for Stayner. More assists for Stayner came via Ryan Hyndman, Kyle Lafreniere, and Darrell, who contributed one a piece.

The Flyers' Akins stopped 48 shots out of the 51 that he faced. Midland incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Jay Payton rejected 27 shots on goal for Stayner. The Siskins incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
