Penetang uses early goal to top Stayner, 3-1

Jack Scanlan scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Penetang Kings held off the challenges of the Stayner Siskins in a tough 3-1 win.

A goal 7:52 into the the first period by Scanlan proved to be the game winner, and powered Penetang to the victory Matt Fischer provided the assist.

The Kings were led by goalie Adam Redgate, who finished with 26 saves while allowing one goal. Redgate managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.3 prior to the game.

Penetang pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 24 penalty minutes.

The Kings' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Stayner power plays. Penetang could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Kings average 5.4 goals per game. Stayner was unable to stop Penetang from sending pucks towards the net, and the Kings eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

Penetang was led by Mac Flewelling, who had one goal and one assist. Flewelling scored on the power play 12:54 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Penetang. A cross checking penalty on Corey DeRose had put the Kings on the power play. Myles York assisted on the tally. Penetang also got a goal from Ryan Young as well. More assists for Penetang came via Matt Meher, who had one and Hayden Cole, who had two.

The Siskins did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Stayner puts an average of 4.2 pucks into the net per game. The Siskins struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 30 penalty minutes for 10 opposing power plays.

Stayner was led by Jason Seeley, who scored the team's only goal. Seeley scored 12:32 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Penetang.

Aaron Taylor recorded 37 saves for the Siskins.
