McIntosh's hat trick boosts Schomberg over Midland, 14-2

The Midland Flyers could not stop the Schomberg Cougars' Kiefer McIntosh, who tallied a hat trick in a 14-2 win.

McIntosh's first goal came 1:23 into the first period. He then added goals at 15:57 into the second and at 6:20 into the third.

Schomberg's penalty kill excelled, as the Cougars gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 9:18 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Schomberg forced Midland's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, firing 49 shots and forcing 35 saves. Marco Colangelo made 15 stops and Andrew Best made 20. The Cougars' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Schomberg averages 5.0 goals per contest. The Cougars' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Schomberg finished with 29 penalty minutes.

Schomberg also got points from Mitch Safaric, who also registered one goal and four assists to lead the team in points, Brandon Falsarella, who also grabbed two goals and one assist, Colton Wood, who also had three goals and one assist, and Blake Culley, who also finished with one goal and three assists. JP Crescenzi also scored for Schomberg. In addition, Schomberg received assists from Christian Muenz, who had two, Declan Lampe, who had four, and Spenser Jones, Cailean Thornton-Wilson, Chris Wilson, Bobby Quinn, and Brandon Yorke, who contributed one a piece.

The Flyers were led by Cam Russell, who registered one goal. Russell scored on the power play 13:57 into the first period to make the score 4-2 Schomberg. Midland had taken the advantage when the Cougars' Wilson got sent off for hooking. Darren Nesbitt assisted on the tally. Midland also got a goal from Logan Webb as well. Other players who recorded assists for Midland were Steven Pickard, who had one.

Taylor Ewart made 21 saves for Schomberg on 23 shots. The Cougars registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. For Schomberg, Jones was ejected from the game. The Flyers ended with 35 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Midland ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Russell was ejected from the game.
