Schomberg holds on for 6-4 win against Huntsville

The Schomberg Cougars survived a determined comeback attempt by the Huntsville Otters on the way to a 6-4 win.

Schomberg took a 6-3 lead during the third period, only to have Huntsville storm back on a Marco Luciani goal 17:38 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

Christian Muenz was all over the ice for the Cougars, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Muenz scored the first of his two goals at 14:22 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Schomberg. Mitch Safaric assisted on the tally. Muenz's next tally made the score 5-3 Schomberg with 6:49 left in the third period. Ryley Egerton picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 20:00 into the second period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with seven game misconducts.

Schomberg was often in penalty trouble, totaling 12 minors and three majors for 59 minutes in penalty time. The Cougars surpassed its season average of 28.0 penalty minutes per game. Schomberg kept the Otters' goalie busy throughout the game, and TJ Sherwood made 32 saves on 38 shots.

Schomberg additionally got points from Egerton, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Nicholas Chaykowsky, who also had one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Schomberg also had goals scored by Brandon Falsarella and Blake Culley, who each put in one. More assists for Schomberg came via Brandon Yorke, who had three and John Gage and Bobby Quinn, who contributed one a piece.

The Huntsville penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 11 minors and two majors for 52 minutes in penalty time. The Otters had been averaging 26.0 minutes in penalties per game. Huntsville was held back by its power play unit, which tallied two goals on 11 chances.

The Otters were helped by Travis Armour, who tallied two goals. Armour scored the first of his two goals at 4:33 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville. Jake McIntyre assisted on the tally. Armour's next tally made the score 3-2 Schomberg with 8:55 left in the second period. Noah Stevens picked up the assist. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Jay Dix, who had two and Brock Heshka, Trayvon Henry, and Bryan Austin, who each chipped in one.

Garett Taylor recorded 20 saves for the Cougars. Schomberg registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Team's Gage, Kevin Sarrazin, Declan Lampe, and Quinn were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. For Huntsville, Stevens, Austin, and Armour were ejected from the contest.
