Fergus downs Penetang in overtime, 4-3 (OT)Centre Wellington Sportsplex Sun, Dec 01, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Fergus Devils pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over the Penetang Kings on a clutch goal by Ben Roelofson. Griffin Heitshu was all over the ice for Fergus, as he finished with two goals in the win. Heitshu scored at 5:01 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and again while on the power play 6:43 into the third to make the score 3-2 Fergus. Penetang's power play was ineffective against the Devils' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. Mikael Ruffini also scored for Fergus. In addition, Fergus received assists from Cody Gresswell, James Murray, Mike Traves, Dominic Weathall, and Mackenzie Cleveland, who contributed one a piece. The Kings' offense operated below they season average. Penetang puts an average of 5.5 pucks into the net per game. Fergus was unable to stop the Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Penetang eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. The Kings were helped by Ryan Young, who grabbed one goal. Young scored on the power play 5:01 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Penetang had gotten the advantage when the Devils' Cole Bradley was sent off for slashing. Kyle Burns picked up the assist. Penetang also got points from Jack Scanlan, who also had one goal and one assist and Matt Fischer, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Penetang were Graham Haley APM, who had one and Mackenzie Bumstead, who had two. Alex Elliott rejected 38 shots on goal for Fergus. The Devils incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Kings' Adam Redgate stopped 21 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Penetang incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
