McIntyre nets hat trick, leads Huntsville to 5-1 win over Fergus

Jake McIntyre netted a hat trick to lead the Huntsville Otters over the Fergus Devils, 5-1.

McIntyre's first goal came 2:46 into the first period. He then added goals at 15:24 into the first and at 6:58 into the second.

Huntsville was led by goalie Connor Christianson, who finished with 33 saves while allowing one goal. Christianson certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.82 entering the contest.

The Otters forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. Huntsville had been averaging 26.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Otters' offense rang up 33 shots on Fergus' net. Huntsville surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Otters average 2.2 goals per contest.

Huntsville also got points from Trayvon Henry, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Jason Morissette also scored for Huntsville. More assists for Huntsville came via Marco Luciani, who had three and Myles Bissonette, Brock Heshka, Shawn Antonidis, Bryan Austin, and Brendan Fitter, who contributed one a piece.

The Devils' offense operated below they season average. Fergus averages 3.3 goals per game. Huntsville was unable to stop the Devils from sending pucks towards the net, and Fergus eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. The Devils could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 40 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Otters registered three goals on nine power play opportunities. For Huntsville, Heshka was ejected from the game. Fergus' Parker Merkley stopped 28 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Devils registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Fergus ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matt Clarke was ejected from the game.
