Stayner beats Midland 8-4 as DeRose gets hat trick

The Midland Flyers could not stop the Stayner Siskins' Corey DeRose, who tallied a hat trick in an 8-4 win.

DeRose got on the scoresheet 17:32 into the first period. He then added goals at 19:54 into the second and at 10:11 into the third.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:51 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Stayner's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Midland power plays. The Siskins' offense rang up 55 shots on Midland's net. Stayner surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Siskins have scored at the pace of 4.5 goals per game during the current campaign.

Stayner also got points from Sean Healy, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Quinton Bruce, who also had one goal and one assist. Stayner also had goals scored by Cooper Martin, Brandon Watson, and Ryan Perencz, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Stayner were Ricky Darrell, who had two, Jeff Hamm, who had three, and Kyle Lafreniere, Ryan Hudson, Dakota Hynes, Derick Robertson, and Jason Seeley, who contributed one a piece.

The Flyers were helped by Cam Russell, who registered one goal and two assists. Russell scored 7:33 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Neal Burgess picked up the assist. Midland additionally got points from Burgess, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Midland included Darren Nesbitt and Sean Crowe, who each put in one. More assists for Midland came via Brandon Stratton, who had one.

Jay Payton recorded 22 saves for Stayner. The Siskins totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play. Stayner ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jackson Clarke was ejected from the game. Andrew Best made 47 saves for Midland on 55 shots. The Flyers ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. For Midland, Chris Goodfellow was ejected from the game.
