Topham's goals lift Erin to 6-2 victory over Fergus

Tyler Topham was all over the ice for the Erin Shamrocks, as he tallied two goals in Erin's 6-2 win over the Fergus Devils.

Topham's tallies came at 12:49 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and on the power play 15:50 into the third to make the score 4-2 Erin.

The Shamrocks stifled Fergus' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Devils were unable to stop Erin from sending pucks towards the net, and the Shamrocks eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. Erin surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Shamrocks average 3.0 goals per contest. Erin was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 30 penalty minutes.

Others who scored for Erin included Mike Niccolucci, who had two and Patrick Reay and Darcy Hackett, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Erin were Josh Sguigna, Cosimo Morin, David Neil, and Liam Adamson, who each chipped in one and Wes Montgomery and Adam Gibson, who contributed two a piece.

Fergus could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 58 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Devils were helped by Joshua Machesney, who registered one goal. Machesney scored 2:26 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Robert Ebach provided the assist. Griffin Heitshu also scored for Fergus. In addition, Fergus received assists from Mike Traves, who had one.

Tom Denstedt made 28 saves for the Shamrocks on 30 shots. Erin registered two goals on 13 power play opportunities. Alex Elliott recorded 34 saves for Fergus. The Devils registered zero goals on five power play opportunities.
