Erin holds on for 4-3 win against Schomberg

The Erin Shamrocks survived a determined comeback attempt by the Schomberg Cougars on the way to a 4-3 win.

A goal by Josh Sguigna put Erin up 4-2 in the third period, but Schomberg pulled to within one on Mitch Safaric's tally 16:05 into the third period.

Sguigna was all over the ice for the Shamrocks, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Sguigna scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 10:55 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Erin. A roughing penalty on Justin Formenton had put Erin on the power play. Connor Mortimer assisted on the tally. Sguigna's next tally on the power play made the score Erin with 6:45 left in the third period. The Shamrocks had gained a power play chance when Brandon Falsarella was whistled for checking from behind. Wes Montgomery provided the assist.

Erin's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Shamrocks finished with 28 penalty minutes.

Chris Grenier also scored for Erin. In addition, Erin received assists from Josh Tremblay, who had two and Adam Gibson and Mark Terry, who contributed one a piece.

More assists for Schomberg came via JP Crescenzi, John Gage, Blake Culley, and Nicholas Chaykowsky, who each chipped in one.

Erin's Terry stopped 24 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Shamrocks registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Garett Taylor made 26 saves for the Cougars on 30 shots. Schomberg incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Cougars ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Falsarella was ejected from the game.
