Caledon survives penalties, beats Erin, 5-2Caledon East Arena Sun, Nov 17, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Erin Shamrocks failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Caledon Golden Hawks shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2. Caledon was sparked by Christian Bonaldi, who registered one goal. Bonaldi scored short handed 5:51 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Caledon. A head contact call on Kyle Lee put the Golden Hawks on the penalty kill. Cody Forgione provided the assist. Caledon kept Erin's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tom Denstedt made 40 saves on 45 shots. Caledon additionally got points from Steve Zeppieri, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Brett Bloor, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Daniel Cafagna also scored for Caledon. In addition, Caledon received assists from Jacob Arsenault, who had two and Mark Smythe, Patrick Savella, and Nicholas McNutt, who contributed one a piece. The Shamrocks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Golden Hawks to score on any of their five power plays. Caledon was unable to stop Erin from sending pucks towards the net, and the Shamrocks eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. Erin was helped by Connor Mortimer, who tallied one goal. Mortimer scored on the power play 8:04 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Caledon. The Shamrocks had taken the advantage when the Golden Hawks' Savella got sent off for interference. Adam Gibson picked up the assist. Erin also got points from Gibson, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Erin were Chris Grenier, Tyler Topham, and Liam Adamson, who each chipped in one. Eric Pitcher made 32 saves for Caledon on 34 shots. The Golden Hawks incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Erin incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Shamrocks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Topham was ejected from the game.
