Schomberg uses big second period to beat Midland, 9-2

The Midland Flyers allowed the Schomberg Cougars to net four goals during the second period and fell, 9-2.

Midland fell victim to a deadly Schomberg power play, which ripped the Flyers for five goals.

The Cougars were led by Bobby Quinn, who racked up one goal. Quinn scored 4:21 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Schomberg. Nicholas Chaykowsky picked up the assist.

Schomberg put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Midland to score on any of its five power plays. The Flyers were unable to stop the Cougars from sending pucks towards the net, and Schomberg eventually piled up 60 shots on goal. The Cougars surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Schomberg has scored at the pace of 5.0 goals per game during the current campaign.

Schomberg additionally got points from Christian Muenz, who also finished with one goal and one assist, JP Crescenzi, who also registered one goal and one assist, John Gage, who also tallied two goals and two assists to lead the team in points, and Blake Culley, who also had two goals and one assist. Schomberg also got a goal from Kiefer McIntosh as well. More assists for Schomberg came via Mitch Safaric, who had two and Kevin Sarrazin and Derek Neilly, who contributed one a piece.

Midland could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 66 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Flyers were led by James Hermelyn, who racked up one goal. Hermelyn scored 58 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Midland. Matt Smith assisted on the tally. Sean Crowe also scored for Midland. In addition, Midland received assists from Cam Russell, who had one.

Garett Taylor recorded 25 saves for the Cougars. Schomberg incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Midland's Marco Colangelo stopped 51 shots out of the 60 that he faced.
