Stayner wins tough contest against Midland, 6-4

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Stayner Siskins escaped with a 6-4 victory over the Midland Flyers.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Kyle Lafreniere secured the win for Stayner with a goal in the second period.

Lafreniere had two goals to lead the Siskins to victory.

Stayner's penalty kill excelled, as the Siskins gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Stayner's offense rang up 43 shots on Midland's net.

Stayner also got points from Cooper Martin, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, Corey DeRose, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Zachery Hannon, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Stayner also got a goal from Ricky Darrell as well. More assists for Stayner came via Dakota Hynes, who had two and Jackson Clarke, Ryan Hudson, Brandon Watson, and Jeff Hamm, who contributed one a piece.

The Flyers were led by Cam Russell, who had one goal and one assist. Russell scored 15:09 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Midland. Darren Nesbitt picked up the assist. Ryan Hassall also scored for Midland.

Aaron Taylor made 26 saves for the Siskins on 30 shots. Stayner incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Andrew Best recorded 37 saves for Midland. The Flyers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For Midland, James Hermelyn was ejected from the game.
