Scanlan leads Penetang over Fergus, 8-5Penetang Memorial CC Fri, Nov 08, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Jack Scanlan had two goals and two assists to lead the Penetang Kings to an 8-5 victory over the Fergus Devils. Scanlan's tallies came on the power play at 17:34 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Penetang and 12:22 into the third to make the score 6-4 Penetang.Penetang pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 36 penalty minutes. The Kings forced Fergus goalie Parker Merkley to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Penetang bested its season scoring average. The Kings average 5.5 goals per game. Penetang also got points from Ryan Shaw, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Matt Fischer, who also racked up two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. Ryan Hyndman also scored for Penetang. In addition, Penetang received assists from Dan Hogan, Sammy Gagnon, Jordan Schwartz, and Myles York, who contributed one a piece and Hayden Cole and Matt Meher, who each chipped in two. Penetang was unable to stop the Devils from sending pucks towards the net, and Fergus eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. The Devils struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 28 penalty minutes for six opposing power plays. Fergus was led by Joshua Schafer, who tallied two goals. Schafer scored the first of his two goals at 16:05 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Penetang. Steven Domenichini picked up the assist. Schafer's next tally made the score 3-3 with 17:53 left in the third period. Cody Gresswell provided the assist. Fergus additionally got points from Mike Traves, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Fergus also got a goal from Griffin Heitshu as well. Other players who recorded assists for Fergus were Ben Roelofson, Patrick Snell, Joshua Machesney, and Ryan Lavrench, who contributed one a piece. The Kings' Martin Lauzon stopped 33 shots out of the 38 that he faced. Merkley recorded 28 saves for the Devils. Fergus registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
