Schomberg penalty kill dominates in 6-2 defeat of HuntsvilleTrisan Centre Thu, Nov 07, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Huntsville Otters failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Schomberg Cougars shook off a number of penalties to win, 6-2. Schomberg was sparked by Nicholas Chaykowsky, who finished with one goal and one assist. Chaykowsky scored 7:35 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Schomberg. The Cougars forced Huntsville goalie TJ Sherwood to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. Schomberg could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game. Schomberg also had goals scored by Mike Barosso, who had two and Cailean Thornton-Wilson, Mitch Safaric, John Gage, and Ryley Egerton, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Schomberg were Kevin Sarrazin, who had two and Kiefer McIntosh, JP Crescenzi, Blake Culley, Brandon Yorke, and Justin Formenton, who contributed one a piece. The Otters were led by Brendan Fitter, who registered one goal and one assist. Fitter scored on the power play 19:17 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Schomberg. Huntsville had gained a power play chance when Yorke was whistled for checking from behind. Bryan Austin picked up the assist. Marco Luciani also scored for Huntsville. Taylor Ewart rejected 21 shots on goal for the Cougars. Schomberg registered two goals on two power play opportunities. Team's Christian Muenz and Yorke were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Otters' Sherwood stopped 27 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Huntsville totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-8 on the power play. The Otters ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Luciani was ejected from the game.
