Huntsville vanquishes Midland in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Huntsville Otters defeated the Midland Flyers in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for 14 attempts between the teams. Midland's shootout goal was scored by James Hermelyn. In addition to the clincher, Huntsville got a shootout goal from Brock Heshka.

The Otters kept the Flyers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Marco Colangelo made 40 saves on 43 shots.

Huntsville was led by Travis Armour, who racked up one goal. Armour scored 31 seconds into the second period to make the score 3-1 Huntsville. Jay Dix picked up the assist. Heshka also scored for Huntsville. More assists for Huntsville came via Shawn Fraser and Brendan Fitter, who each chipped in one.

Midland forced the Otters goalie Connor Christianson to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

The Flyers were helped by Jake Evans, who had one goal and one assist. Evans scored on the power play 19:03 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Huntsville. An interference penalty on Noah Stevens had put Midland on the power play. Darren Nesbitt assisted on the tally. Midland additionally got points from Nesbitt, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Midland received assists from Nick Heins and Steven Pickard, who contributed one a piece.

Connor Christianson made 32 saves for Huntsville on 34 shots. The Otters incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Flyers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
