Huge game by Culley boosts Schomberg over Stayner, 8-4

The Schomberg Cougars' Blake Culley had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing three assists in his team's 8-4 win over the Stayner Siskins.

Culley scored at 10:34 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Stayner and again while on the power play 11:53 into the third to make the score 6-4 Schomberg.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:24 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Schomberg racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 11 minors and two majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. The Cougars had been averaging 25.0 minutes in penalties per game. Schomberg's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Stayner power plays. The Cougars kept Stayner's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jay Payton made 30 saves on 38 shots. Schomberg outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Cougars average 4.9 goals per contest.

Schomberg additionally got points from Brandon Falsarella, who also racked up two goals and one assist and Brandon Yorke, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Schomberg also had goals scored by Kiefer McIntosh, who had one and Declan Lampe, who had two. In addition, Schomberg received assists from Chris Wilson, John Gage, and Derek Neilly, who each chipped in one.

The Siskins were often in penalty trouble, totaling 12 minors and three majors for 59 minutes in penalty time. Stayner surpassed its season average of 29.0 penalty minutes per game. The Siskins forced Schomberg goalie Taylor Ewart to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Stayner was led by Dakota Hynes, who registered one goal and one assist. Hynes scored 18:14 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Stayner. Mac Flewelling picked up the assist. Stayner also got points from Flewelling, who also had one goal and one assist. Stayner also got a goal from Quinton Bruce as well. Other players who recorded assists for Stayner were Derick Robertson, who had one and Steve Griggs, who had two.

Ewart recorded 32 saves for the Cougars. Schomberg registered three goals on 12 power play opportunities. Team's Lampe, Justin Formenton, and Nicholas Chaykowsky were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. For the Siskins, Flewelling, Corey DeRose, Jackson Clarke, Ricky Darrell, and Jason Seeley were ejected from the contest.
