Alliston survives penalties, beats Midland, 2-1

North Simcoe SRC    Sun, Oct 27, 2013

The Alliston Hornets' penalty kill was superb, as Alliston survived multiple penalties to beat the Midland Flyers, 2-1.

The Hornets were led by Mark ODonnell, who had one goal. ODonnell scored 12:12 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Alliston. Tanner Dockerty provided the assist.

Alliston excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. Midland was unable to stop the Hornets from sending pucks towards the net, and Alliston eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Alliston also got points from Dockerty, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Alliston received assists from Dakota Brooks, who had one.

The Flyers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Alliston power plays. Midland's offense was handcuffed by the Hornets' defensive play, and the Flyers managed only 14 shots on goal during the game.

Midland was led by James Hermelyn, who scored the team's only goal. Hermelyn scored 10:37 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Kaden Shearer assisted on the tally.

Connor Ryckman recorded 13 saves for Alliston. The Hornets incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Andrew Best made 30 saves for the Flyers on 32 shots. Midland incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Team's Cam Russell and Matt Smith were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
