Caledon's comeback falls short, Orillia wins 5-4

The Orillia Terriers came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Caledon Golden Hawks, but did just enough to escape with a 5-4 victory.

Orillia led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Terriers' Jake Shaw's scored at 17:19 in the first period to put Orillia up 3-0.

In a losing effort, Caledon was sparked by Rocky Furfari, who registered two goals and one assist. Furfari scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 1:26 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Orillia. The Golden Hawks had gained a power play chance when Erik Baskey was whistled for bench / coach. Christian Bonaldi picked up the assist. Furfari's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 4:47 left in the second period. A hooking penalty on Wyatt Young had put Caledon on the power play. Bonaldi assisted on the tally.

In the losing effort, the Golden Hawks were led by Furfari, who grabbed two goals and one assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:51 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The the Terriers penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 59 minutes in penalty time. Orillia surpassed its season average of 35.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Terriers were helped by Jason Binnie, who racked up one goal. Binnie scored on the power play 18:17 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Orillia. Orillia earned a power play opportunity when Furfari was put in the box for checking from behind. Josh Allan picked up the assist. Orillia also got points from Allan, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Orillia also got a goal from Marty Lawlor as well. In addition, Orillia received assists from Jakob McCarthy, who had one.

Caledon racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and two majors for 46 minutes in penalty time. The Golden Hawks had been averaging 27.0 minutes in penalties per game. Caledon's offense rang up 40 shots on the Terriers' net.

Nicholas McNutt also scored for Caledon. Other players who recorded assists for Caledon were Patrick Savella, who had three and Justin Lollini and Zack Worth, who each chipped in one.

Gordie Weiss rejected 36 shots on goal for Orillia. The Terriers registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For Orillia, Zac Hele was ejected from the game. Eric Pitcher recorded 22 saves for the Golden Hawks. Caledon registered three goals on eight power play opportunities. Team's Furfari and Cody Forgione were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
