Fergus rolls over Midland, 5-1

The Midland Flyers had trouble finding ways to stop the Fergus Devils, which beat Flyers, 5-1.

Fergus pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 53 penalty minutes.

The Devils were led by Griffin Heitshu, who registered one goal. Heitshu scored short handed 4:57 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Fergus. Fergus played down a man on Cody Haw's hooking.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 13:24 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Devils' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Midland power plays. Fergus' offense rang up 48 shots on Midland's net.

Fergus also got points from Mackenzie Cleveland, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Fergus also had goals scored by Mikael Ruffini, who had one and Cody Gresswell, who had two. More assists for Fergus came via Cole Bradley, Tristan Bran, and Ben Roelofson, who contributed one a piece.

The Flyers forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 49 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game Midland had been spending in the box.

Alex Elliott recorded 24 saves for the Devils. Fergus registered one goal on 10 power play opportunities. For the Devils, Patrick Snell was ejected from the game. Marco Colangelo made 43 saves for the Flyers on 48 shots. Team's Tristan Flude, Matt Smith, and James Hermelyn were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
