Caledon hangs on, beats Schomberg 5-3

Adam Breen gave the Caledon Golden Hawks the lead in the first period, and the Schomberg Cougars was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 5-3.

Caledon took over the lead for good with a goal by Breen at 2:26 in the first period. Rocky Furfari assisted on the tally.

The Golden Hawks were led by Daniel Cafagna, who racked up one goal. Cafagna scored 16:39 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Caledon. Steven Klomp provided the assist.

Caledon's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Schomberg power plays. The Golden Hawks' offense rang up 43 shots on Schomberg's net.

Caledon also got points from Furfari, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Steve Zeppieri, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Klomp, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Caledon came via Victor Piszczek and Cody Forgione, who contributed one a piece and Christian Bonaldi and Randy Chen, who each chipped in two.

The Cougars stifled Caledon's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Golden Hawks were unable to stop Schomberg from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cougars eventually piled up 49 shots on goal.

Schomberg was helped by Mike Barosso, who registered one goal. Barosso scored 5:45 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Caledon. Ryley Egerton picked up the assist. Kiefer McIntosh also scored for Schomberg. In addition, Schomberg received assists from Cailean Thornton-Wilson, Mitch Safaric, John Gage, and Blake Culley, who contributed one a piece.

Eric Pitcher recorded 46 saves for Caledon. The Golden Hawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Cougars' Taylor Ewart stopped 38 shots out of the 43 that he faced. Schomberg incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
