Erin outlasts Orillia, 6-5

The Erin Shamrocks gutted out a close 6-5 win against the Orillia Terriers.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Connor Mortimer secured the win for Erin with a goal in the third period.

Chris Grenier had a great game for the Shamrocks, netting two goals. Grenier scored on the power play at 6:17 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Erin and again while 8:38 into the second to make the score 5-3 Erin.

Erin surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Shamrocks have scored at the pace of 3.4 goals per game during the current campaign. Erin's penalty kill was ineffective, and let in two goals to Orillia's power play unit. The Shamrocks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

Erin additionally got points from Tyler Topham, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Darcy Hackett, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Erin also got a goal from Josh Sguigna as well. In addition, Erin received assists from Wes Montgomery, who had one and Patrick Reay, who had two.

The Terriers were often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and one major for 53 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 35.0 minutes per game Orillia had been spending in the box. Erin was unable to stop the Terriers from sending pucks towards the net, and Orillia eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

The Terriers were led by Marty Lawlor, who finished with three goals. Orillia also got points from Josh Allan, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Hunter Makey also scored for Orillia. More assists for Orillia came via Kyle Nikkanen, who had two and Daniel Lee, Wyatt Young, and Jason Stone, who contributed one a piece.

Tom Denstedt recorded 28 saves for the Shamrocks. Erin registered two goals on 16 power play opportunities. Gordie Weiss rejected 23 shots on goal for Orillia. For the Terriers, Tyler Mason was ejected from the game.
