Alliston shrugs off penalties, upends Stayner, 6-2Stayner Memorial Arena Thu, Oct 10, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Stayner Siskins failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Alliston Hornets shook off a number of penalties to win, 6-2. Alliston was led by Bobby Sloan, who racked up one goal. Sloan scored 9:29 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Alliston. Thomas Foulds APM picked up the assist. The Hornets made Stayner's goalies to work between the pipes, launching 33 shots and forcing 27 saves. Jay Payton made 23 stops and Aaron Taylor made four. Alliston stifled the Siskins' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Hornets could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game. Alliston also got points from Mark ODonnell, who also registered one goal and one assist and Dakota Brooks, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Jamie Bennett also scored for Alliston. Other players who recorded assists for Alliston were Ryan Marks, Darren Nesbitt, Andrew Ceolin, Alex Daley, Ben Skuce, and Nic Archibald, who each chipped in one. Stayner could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Siskins average 4.3 goals per game. Stayner's offense rang up 39 shots on Alliston's net. The Siskins' power play unit failed to produce, and was held to zero goals on nine chances. Stayner was helped by Jeff Hamm, who finished with one goal. Hamm scored 16:24 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Stayner. Ricky Darrell provided the assist. Stayner also got a goal from Mac Flewelling as well. In addition, Stayner received assists from Zachery Hannon and Corey DeRose, who contributed one a piece. Tyler Brindle made 37 saves for the Hornets on 39 shots. Alliston registered one goal on two power play opportunities. The Siskins incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
