Cornwall squeaks by Carleton Place, 3-2

The Cornwall Colts gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Carleton Place Canadians.

Cornwall gained the winning advantage on a goal by Michael Pontarelli 3:22 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

With the win, the Colts evened the series at 2-2 in the best of seven showdown.

Cornwall was led by Stephen Johnson, who registered one goal and one assist. Johnson scored 5:39 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Cornwall. Jake Bannister assisted on the tally.

The Colts put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Carleton Place to score on any of its four power plays.

Cornwall also got a goal from Marly Quince as well. More assists for Cornwall came via Pietro Antonelli and Mitch Zion, who each chipped in one.

The Canadians excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Cornwall was unable to stop Carleton Place from sending pucks towards the net, and the Canadians eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

Carleton Place was helped by Kelly Summers, who racked up one goal. Summers scored 17:33 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Cornwall. Alex Globke provided the assist. Kevin Dufour also scored for Carleton Place. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Elias Ghantous and Jide Idowu, who contributed one a piece.

The Colts' Jordan Piccolino stopped 34 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Cornwall incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Brendan Oneill rejected 23 shots on goal for the Canadians. Carleton Place incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
